《爾雅．釋詁下》：「楨，榦也。」
清．郝懿行．義疏：「舍人曰：『楨，正也。築牆所立兩木也。』」
支柱、主幹。
《詩經．大雅．文王》：「王國克生，維周之楨。」
唐．皮日休〈文中子碑〉：「先生門人，為唐之楨。」
植物名。木犀科女貞屬，常綠灌木或喬木。高丈餘，葉卵形，質厚而有光澤。圓錐花序頂生，夏日開花，花冠白色，裂片四枚，花冠筒與裂片近等長，雄蕊二枚。核果橢圓而黑，可入藥。
